The Hull Truck Theatre in England, designed by UK practice Wright & Wright Architects, has won the Best Public Building award at the 2009 Brick Awards, beating four other finalists.
The £15m theatre features a 440-seat main auditorium, a 136-seat Studio Theatre, an experimental theatre, a rehearsal space and an education space Inter@ct. The two foyer spaces will be converted as performance and exhibition spaces.
The theatre was originally based in Spring Street in 1983, and a new theatre was established in April 2009.
The theatre also won other awards including Building of the Year at the Yorkshire-wide Royal Institute of British Architects White Rose Awards; The Gold Award for Architecture, and the Sustainable Futures Award for green architecture.
