The Yas Hotel in Abu Dhabi, UAE, has recently completed the installation of LED fixtures on the hotel's exterior grid-shell, making it the world's largest LED installation to date.

The 85,000m² hotel has a curved design and features a grid-shell covered with 5,300 diamond-shaped steel panels containing nearly 5,000 RGBW LED fixtures.

The fixtures have been installed by Arup Lighting and are controlled through remote device management (RDM) protocol.

The e:cue lighting control application will create colour-changing lighting sequences and customise three dimensional low-resolution video content on the grid-shell.

The hotel's two towers are linked by a sculpted-steel monocoque pass-through bridge, which runs over the Formula 1 racetrack.

The 500-room hotel, which has been designed by US practice Asymptote Architecture and built by Aldar Properties, opened on 3 November 2009.
