The steel skeleton of the Shard tower in London, touted to be Europe’s tallest building, now stands at 310m.

The Shard currentl has five storeys, but will have 80 upon completion in May 2012.

The 850ft Shard is being built by Sellar Property Group in conjunction with the State of Qatar, as part of the £2bn, London Bridge Quarter (LBQ) development, which covers an area of 1.4 million square feet.

The development will feature 586,000ft² of office space, a five-star hotel, restaurants and residential apartments, and will have the highest public viewing gallery in Europe.

LBQ will also include London Bridge Place, designed by Renzo Piano, which will feature 419,000ft² of office space and a piazza to connect the two buildings with London Bridge Station.
