Construction work on K2, a new academic building for London South Bank University, has been completed by British firm Grimshaw Architects.
A five-storey atrium combines the health and social care faculty and the education department at the university’s Elephant and Castle campus.
The atrium features a series of glazed link bridges linking the public parts of the building.
Galleries on all four levels contain internet access and informal spaces, leading to a meeting room suite at the top of the atrium, which offers views of London.
K2 is a low-carbon project featuring solar shading, natural ventilation and photovoltaic panels. It also uses geothermal piles to provide energy to heat and cool the building.
The plant is positioned in a showcase enclosure on the roof allowing the systems to become an interactive exhibit.
