The Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum has received approval from the Board of Trustees at Michigan State University to go ahead with construction.

Groundbreaking for the site is scheduled for 16 March 2010 and construction is expected to be complete in 2012.

Zaha Hadid Architects won the scheme in a design competition in January 2008.

Design ideas for the museum were put forward by MSU alumnus Eli Broad, who donated $18.5m for the construction and $7.5m to commission a signature sculpture, and for acquisitions, operations and endowment.
