Foundation work for The White Water Canoe Centre in Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, have been completed.

The venue will host the canoe slalom events during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) began construction work on the venue in July 2009.

Over 500 concrete piles were placed 16m into the ground to form the foundations of the venue facilities building and Olympic course start pool.

150,000m³ of material forms the canoe course embankments and the landscaped features, while 10,000m³ of soil had been excavated to create the finish lake.

Currently work is underway on the venue facility building's base while concrete works will begin on the canoe course in 2011.

The venue is expected to be complete ahead of 2012.

Temporary seating will be installed around the venue during the games.
