KCAP Architects and Planners has won a competition to design the master plan for development of a 50ha site in the south portion of the Olympic Park in Beijing.

The KCAP design will provide the site with additional housing, retail, hotels, and cultural and community facilities, while connecting the site with bus and train interchanges in the south.

The design will also add a large urban park to bridge the commercial functions in an east-west direction under a landscaped roof, which is the central element of the scheme.

The plan is expected to begin in 2010.

KCAP will collaborate with the Beijing Institute for Architectural Design to shape the legacy of the Olympic Park, and to work on public infrastructure and landscaping within the site.
