UK practice Hodder + Partners has submitted plans to the local city council for a new 37-storey student apartment skyscraper on New Wakefield Street, Manchester.

The 111m-tall scheme will house 525 bedrooms and is touted to be the city's second tallest residential building, after Ian Simpson's Beetham Tower.

The scheme is designed above a podium and features two smaller blocks on the south side of the development and larger towers on the north east and north west corners.

The practice drew up plans for a smaller, 87-apartment scheme on the plot for developer Dandara.

Work is expected to start on the site by June if the scheme wins approval.
