US practice KieranTimberlake has won a competition to design the new US Embassy in London.
KieranTimberlake’s design was selected by the US Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations ahead of three other firms: Morphosis Architects, Pei Cobb Freed & Partners and Richard Meier & Partners, in the final phase of the competition.
The winning design met the competition’s mission statement for creating an iconic and sustainable embassy.
KieranTimberlake and the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations will also be involved in consultation and planning process with the Mayor’s office, Wandsworth Borough Council, and the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment (CABE).
Ground-breaking is scheduled for 2013 and the building is expected to be complete in 2017, according to the US Department of State.
