Work on the stalled £295m Walkie Talkie Tower designed by Rafael Viñoly is expected to restart, according to sources at developer Land Securities.

A fall in construction prices and a future shortage of office space in London are behind the decision to restart the 36-storey project, which will cover an area of 639,000ft².

Contractors have been asked to submit informal tenders for the 180m skyscraper which received planning approval in 2007, according to cnplus.co.uk.

Land Securities said the improved outlook for rental growth in the city had played a part in the decision to restart the project.
