The new C$22m Chilliwack Cultural Centre in Canada is expected to begin operation this year, Canadian practice Kasian Architecture has announced.

Bird Construction Company has been appointed as contractor for the project, which features a 500-seat performance theatre, a 150-seat recital hall and an art gallery.

The building has set a record for being the tallest ever built from tilt-up concrete panels, being made up of 100, each measuring 82ft.

The concrete panels were erected in January 2010, each weighing about 100,000lb.
