Danish practice Schmidt Hammer Lassen Architects has won a competition to design a Central Library in Nova Scotia, Canada.

The practice will collaborate with the Canadian firm Fowler Bauld & Mitchell to design the C$45m ($44.6m) library located across the road from the existing library.

The 11,000m² library is being delivered for Halifax Regional Board and Halifax Regional Municipality.

Schmidt Hammer Lassen have experience designing libraries having helped on the extension of the Royal Library in Copenhagen, Denmark, and the University of Aberdeen's new library in Scotland.
