KCAP Architects & Planners has won a competition to design a master plan for Keqiao Water City in Shaoxing, China.

The company said the 45ha site will be overhauled for residential use with community, sport and commercial facilities interspersed across the site.

The scheme will feature water lands, parks and gardens designed around the two lakes alongside public squares, roads and paths in a continuous landscape fabric.

The project includes two centres offering views of the lakes; one centre will house a hotel and commercial spaces and will face the waterfront.

Another centre will be located in the western part of the site and will feature residential spaces.

KCAP will work with developer Gemdale and the local authorities to develop the masterplan.

Work will begin in 2011.
