A shortlist of 16 designs for the new 44,000m² dance and music centre in Spuiplein, the Netherlands, has been revealed.

The proposed building will replace the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA)-designed theatre that was built in 1987.

OMA is offering advice on the new scheme and is also among the shortlisted teams, which include Ian Simpson, Zaha Hadid, Mecanoo, Aedas, Capita Architecture, Wiel Arets, Henning Larsen and Diller Scofidio & Renfro.

Snøhetta, UN Studio, Search and 3XN withdrew from the competition, according to bdonline.co.uk.
