An LEED Core and Shell Gold certificate from the US Green Building Council has been awarded to the Patriots Plaza II and III class A office buildings in south-west Washington, DC, US.

The one-million-square-foot office complex has been built and leased by Trammell Crow Company, while funded and owned by multiemployer property trust (MEPT).

Trammell Crow Company is expected to seek commercial interiors LEED certification for the complex.

The office complex was completed in October 2009, and will house the US Department of Agriculture from early 2011.

The buildings employ sustainable strategies such as the use of locally sourced recycled construction materials, including energy and water-efficient systems, and enhanced security features.

MEPT is a real estate equity fund based in the US, Kennedy Associates Real Estate Counsel is a real estate investment advisor and Trammell Crow Company is a US-based real estate developer.
