A design competition has been launched by the British Film Institute to design its new headquarters and film centre on the South Bank in London, UK.

The £166m ($256.7m) proposed scheme will be located on a car park near the London Eye.

Practices will be shortlisted for the competition by August and the final winner will be appointed in November 2010.

The winning architect will select the rest of the design team.

In 2001, David Chipperfield Architects designed a scheme for the project, winning earlier Ojeu competition, however, those plans have now been scrapped, according to bdonline.co.uk.
