Work has begun on the site at the Wolfe Center for the Performing Arts in Ohio, US, designed by Norwegian firm Snøhetta Architects.

The $40m (£26m) scheme will form part of the 540ha Bowling Green State University campus.

The designs incorporate features to blend the academic scheme with the surrounding agricultural landscape.

The 9,000m² project will house the university's department of film and theatre, and will feature classrooms, digital and film production, and studio spaces.

The 400-seat rounded main theatre area will feature a vertical fly tower and large glazed sections will create a picture window for the campus that will also maximise the use of natural light.

The scheme has secured an $8.7m capital grant from the state of Ohio and is expected to complete in 2011, according to bdonline.co.uk
