Canada’s Diamond and Schmidt Architects is to design the new 600-seat performing arts centre in Cambridge, Canada.
The practice beat 20 other firms to win the design competition, according to therecord.com.
The C$13m Drayton Theatre is being creted for non-profit organisation Drayton Entertainment, which is also overseeing the design and construction.
The scheme will be located along the Grand River, in a parking lot at Grand Avenue and St Andrew’s Street, beside Southworks Outlet Mall.
Ground-breaking is scheduled to take place this year and the project will be complete by 2012.
The Drayton Theatre is an $18m initiative by Cambridge, Queen’s Park and Ottawa.
