The Museum of Contemporary Art in Sydney, Australia, will receive major upgrades as part of its renovation plans.

Beginning next month, work on the project will involve extending the north end of the building to include a lecture theatre, library and interactive classroom.

The A$53m project is being funding by federal and state governments while MCA Foundation chairman Simon Mordant and his family will contribute A$15m.

The extension will be named the Mordant Wing in recognition of the family's support.

Upgrades are expected to be complete in 2012, according to abc.net.au.

The building, which is connected to the existing art deco building, has been designed by architect Sam Marshall.
