Four international practices have been selected as finalists in a design competition to expand and improve the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in the US.
The firms include Norwegian firm Snøhetta, New York-based Diller Scofidio + Renfro, and London-based Adjaye Associates and Foster + Partners.
The museum expansion will involve expansion of existing facilities, tripling the gallery and public spaces, along with interior enhancements.
The final winner will be announced in September and initial design concepts will be unveiled in 2011.
Expansion work is expected to be complete in 2016, according to artdaily.org.
The $250m project has been funded by museum while consulting firm, Bain & Company worked on the business plan.
