Work has begun on the Anderson Student Centre at the University of St Thomas in Minnesota, US, which is part of a $133m building campaign.
The 225,000ft² building will be built at a cost of $66m and is expected to open in 2012.
The new student centre will replace the Murray-Herrick Campus Center and will add dining facilities, a multipurpose room, meeting rooms, an art gallery, bowling alleys, offices and an underground car park.
Opus Northwest and Opus Architects and Engineers are the contractors and architects for the student centre and recreational areas, while Shepley Bulfinch collaborated on the architectural design for the student centre.
The building campaign also includes a $52m Anderson athletic and recreation complex, which will be completed in August this year, and a 724-space car park.
The recreation centre will also have new basketball and volleyball arenas and swimming and training facilities.
