HGA Architects and Engineers will design the renovation of Clausen Hall at Los Angeles City College, California, US.
The $13m renovation of the music building will involve the addition of a 150-seat lecture hall, classrooms and practice rooms.
The project will also involve the renovation of an existing recital hall, a band room, coaching studios, music library and faculty offices.
The revamp will retain the existing brick-and-concrete aesthetic and incorporate new green designs.
Sloped floors will be added in the main recital hall for increased seating while improved acoustic functions, ceiling reflectors and the addition of a green room, recording booth and piano storage are included in the project.
The building will also undergo extensive exterior and interior upgrades to better equip it for academic music requirements.
Existing spaces will be realigned by adding informal meeting spaces, updating rehearsal rooms and adding display cases.
The refurbishment will employ recycled building materials and various energy and water-efficiency strategies.
The project is scheduled to be completed in 2012, according to dbusinessnews.com.
