Birdair has been awarded a contract to install a tensile roof at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, India, as part of its retrofitting project.

The US-based company will supply the membrane panels for the facility's 54,000m² roof while Taiyo Membrane Corporation will provide installation and construction services for the project, the largest of its kind in Asia.

The 75,000-seat stadium is undergoing renovations to meet international standards to host the XIX Commonwealth Games.

The project team also features German engineers Schlaich Bergermann, German architects GMP and general contractors Shapoorji Pallonji, Pfeifer Seil, Hebetechnik and VSL International.
