Final designs for the new Bainbridge Art Museum in Washington state, US, have been approved by the museum board.

The new curved wedge-shaped building features a wide-windowed front, which will be located at the Winslow intersection.

The 20,000ft² project, due to open in mid 2012, is part of the Bainbridge island gateway development programme.

Increased exhibition and retail spaces, and a coffee shop will be included in the two-storey building.

The museum will also have a 4,000ft building to house a 100-seat auditorium while the second storey will have 1,400ft² of classroom space and a few office rooms.

The $12m project has been entirely funded through private donations, according to kitsapsun.com.
