Vinci BAM Nuttall has been awarded a contract to upgrade Victoria Underground Station in London, UK.

The £700m ($1bn) contract was ordered by Transport for London (TFL), which wants to cut passenger congestion, improve access and manage future demands on its lines and at its stations.

Work will begin in 2011, and will involve building a new ticket hall and entrances, and expanding an existing ticket hall to provide step-free access on both underground and national rail platforms.

New lifts and escalators, and a new passageway to the Victoria Line platform will also be constructed.

The project is expected to be complete by 2018.
