MVRDV and ADEPT have been awarded a contract to design the House of Culture and Movement building in Frederiksberg, Denmark.
The 4,000m² building will include a community centre, exhibition and performance areas, a playground, a park and a health centre.
To be set in a 4,500m² of public gardens, it will be the first in a series of three buildings being built in phases.
The first phase, including the House of Movement, the garden and the urban curtain, will be completed in 2015, at a total cost of €17m ($20m).
The main building, the House of Culture and Movement, or Kultur-og Bevægelseshus (Ku-Be) will be a rectangular glass volume that will contain six stacked ideal programmatic elements.
The stacked elements can be used as a theatre, health zone, food zone, zen area, study centre and exhibition hall, fitness and activity centre, wellness centre and an area for the administration.
In later stages, a commercial building and a second House of Movement will be constructed.
