The world's tallest tensile structure, The Khan Shatyr entertainment centre, has opened in Kazakhstan.

Designed by Foster + Partners, the centre covers an area of 100,000m² within an ETFE dome, which rises 150m from an elliptical base.

The park also features many flexible spaces along with retail areas, cafes, restaurants and cinemas, which form different levels of undulating terraces; the uppermost terrace forming a water park.

The building's three-layer ETFE envelope is designed to shelter the interior from harsh weather in winter while fritting on the outermost foil layer provides solar shading.
