The design for the proposed Fort Collins discovery museum in Colorado, US, has been approved by local authorities.

The 43,000ft² facility, designed by David Schafer, will feature a dome theatre, exhibit spaces and classrooms as well as other retail spaces.

Groundbreaking on the facility is expected to take place in August this year, while the museum opening is scheduled for 2012.

With exhibits and the digital dome, the total project cost is expected to reach about $25m, reports coloradoan.com
