The first of five roof trusses has been lifted into place at the new Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin, New Zealand.

Hawkins Construction is delivering the NZ$198m (US$142m) stadium project, which will be the nation’s first fully covered sports venue.

The first truss will span the gap between the stadium’s north and south stands and will be joined by four others, forming the roof’s steel frame to hold the ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) roof.

The structure is due to be complete ahead of the Rugby World Cup in 2011, according to odt.co.nz.
