BDP Architects has been appointed by Hyder Consulting to redesign Victoria Railway Station in Manchester, UK.

Hyder Consulting received a contract from Network Rail to revamp the station project in three phases.

The project is being jointly funded by Network Rail (£16m ($25m)), Manchester City Council (£5m ($7.9m)) and GMITA (£4m ($6.3m)).

The redevelopment includes a new 6,300m² ETFE roof, glazed screens, glazed station entrance doors, relocation of ticket offices, external façade and canopy works as well as improved retail facilities.

It will also include step-free access to the arena and additional Metrolink platforms.

Network Rail will work with Northern Rail, English Heritage and the Railway Heritage Trust to complete the project.

The scheme is expected to complete in 2014.
