US-based practice WXY Architecture + Urban Design has unveiled the master plan for the new design of Fordham Plaza in Bronx, US.
The design features improved traffic circulation and mass transit access, space for events and pedestrians as well as a new green market and cafe.
The plaza redesign incorporates several green elements including bioswales to reduce storm-water runoff, solar panels and a small wind turbine.
The plan aims to improve transit riders’ access to 12 bus lines and rail transportation while offering 80,000 pedestrians improved walkways.
The project has secured initial funding for the scheme, according to crainsnewyork.com.
