URBED of the UK has been selected to design the detailed master plan for the Stoke-on-Trent town centre in Staffordshire, UK.
The proposed regeneration scheme will include cobbled alleyways with open retail spaces for street theatre and circus squares.
The practice will also design the master plan for the Creative Courts and Spode Lanes over the next six months, following a public consultation.
Spode’s heritage buildings will be converted for use as low-cost studios and exhibition and performance spaces, as part of the regeneration.
The city council purchased the Spode site for £3.5m ($5.5m), however further funding for URBED’s plan has yet to be secured, according to thisisstaffordshire.co.uk.
The practice will team up with Jan Gehl Architects, building consultants DTZ and engineering firm Arup for the project.
