Danish firm Adept architects and Japanese practice Sou Fujimoto have together won a competition to design a new library in Falun, Sweden.

The project, Dalarna Media Arena, consists of a 3,000m² library and an adjoining plaza, and is part of the Dalarna University campus.

The scheme will feature sloping terrain that continues in a ramp through the building by wrapping itself up to create a spiral-shaped space.

The library's wooden façades integrate the building into the surroundings.

The practice will work with an advisory team consisting of Topotek1, Rambøll A/S and Bosch & Fjord for the scheme.
