The number of unemployed architects in the UK has risen by 11.5% to 1,175 in the last month, according to a new report.

The Office for National Statistics said this was the first rise seen in ten months, according to bdonline.co.uk.

The rise was attributed to the cancellation of the Building Schools for the Future programme on 5 July.

The number of architects out of work was highest in August 2009, when a total of 2,055 architects claimed benefits.
