Elemi Architects has successfully completed the installation of solar energy systems on a new three-storey building in the US state of Tennessee.

The design and construction of the Riverfront Professionals project includes 140 solar panels for the 32,000ft² state-of-the-art green building.

Elemi Architects principal architect Eric Myers said the environmentally responsible and economically intelligent architecture incorporates passive solar technology to offset electricity costs and minimise the carbon footprint the building leaves behind.

"The building's passive solar approach and sun shades will help minimise the cooling demand on its high-efficiency HVAC equipment," he said.

The solar panel installation enables the building to participate in Tennessee Valley Authority's green power switch generation partners programme, offering power customers a cost-efficient way to generate power with very low impact on the environment.

Elemi Architects is hoping to receive LEED Silver certification for the Riverfront Professionals project, according to chattanoogan.com.
