UK-based architectural practice PRP has completed the central master plan of one of China's most densely populated cities, Chongqing.

The "Two Rivers / Four Shore" master plan covers the Yuzhong peninsula, an area of over 12km².

PRP has designed an urban framework for the city to reduce construction volume and increase the green spaces by utilising Chongqing's historical and cultural assets.

The plan aims to improve the image of the city by opening up the river frontage and moving industrialised parts from the city centre to the surrounding areas.

The plan also will create two bridges to link the central business district with the mainland to improve the environmental performance of existing buildings and reduce the residential population within the centre.
