The bidding process has begun for a £15m ($23m) contract to develop a new futuristic city centre bus station in Staffordshire, England.

The project has been designed by UK-based practice Grimshaw Architects, and is expected to cost between £11.7m ($18m) and £17.6m ($27m).

Stoke-on-Trent City Council said work on the project will begin on March 28 next year while the existing bus station will then be demolished.

Shopping centre developer Realis Estates is expected to provide £4m ($6m) towards the station scheme.

The project will also receive funding from the regional development agency Advantage West Midlands.

Bids for the design and construction of the new station must be submitted by 4 October 2010, according to thisisstaffordshire.co.uk.
