The first phase of a new mixed-use scheme called Merchant Gate has been opened in Wakefield, England. The £140m ($217m) site, developed by the English Cities Fund, features 35,000ft² of retail and leisure buildings, 48,000ft² of office space, 66 apartments and a multistorey

The first phase of a new mixed-use scheme called Merchant Gate has been opened in Wakefield, England.

The £140m ($217m) site, developed by the English Cities Fund, features 35,000ft² of retail and leisure buildings, 48,000ft² of office space, 66 apartments and a multistorey car park.

Work on the second phase of the scheme is currently underway and includes a new 123,000ft² office for Wakefield council.

The development is part of the wider regeneration of the city, according to ukbusinessproperty.co.uk.
