The 15,300-seat stadium can be expanded to 40,000 seats, once the UNC sports team, Charlotte 49ers move to the Football Bowl Subdivision (I-A).

The $45m stadium has been designed by Jenkins-Peer Architects in collaboration with Kansas-based DLR Group.

The scheme will feature artificial turf, two practice fields, a scoreboard, lights, field house, locker rooms and an observation deck.

Ground-breaking for the stadium is scheduled for April 2011, according to charlotteobserver.com.
