The $25m project will add 3,251m² of space and “transform the building into the St John’s Learning Commons”, the university said in a statement.

The renovated and expanded library will have more than 9,290m² of space upon completion in 2014.

The building was originally designed by Hungry-born architect the late Marcel Breuer.
