Design plans for a proposed £400m ($632m) football stadium in London, UK, have been approved by Haringey Council.

The 56,000-seat stadium is being delivered for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, which plans to use the stadium as one of the grounds for England's 2018 World Cup bid.

The project will, however, need final approval from London Mayor Boris Johnson, English Heritage and UK Secretary of State Jeremy Hunt, according to the Londonist.

The plans involve the removal of several historic buildings along Tottenham High Road, which was objected to by the Victorian Society earlier in the year.
