Planning permission has been granted by the local council for a £10m ($15.8m) library and council office in Edinburgh, Scotland, UK.

The library is part of a £250m ($397m) plan to rengenerate Craigmillar town centre.

The development will house the new East Neighbourhood Office, meeting facilities and a cafe.

The 14,630m² library will include low-carbon technology to provide an efficient heating, cooling and hot water system.

The council plans to appoint a contractor this year and work will begin in 2011. Completion is scheduled for 2012, according to guardian.co.uk.
