Suzhou Zhongrun Real Estate has opened the Lefo Mall Shopping Centre in China, designed by the UK-based architectural firm Broadway Malyan.
Located at the centre of Suzhou’s new Wuzhong Central Business District in the Jiangsu province of eastern China, the 65,000m² mall is anticipated to draw young, design-conscious customers.
Under the deal, Broadway Malyan provided concept design as well as site services, including interior and landscape architecture and branding/environmental graphics design.
Broadway Malyan said that the design of the mall is inspired by Suzhou’s bridges, canals and gardens, with the city known as the ‘Venice of the East’.
Natural elements like water have also inspired the design and the architectural practice said the design creates a feeling of ripples and pools flowing through the space while incorporating curved balustrade details into the structure.
The mall features primary void spaces designed with organic forms, bridges and pools in the floorscape to create seating areas.
In May 2012, Broadway Malyan won a brief from Chinese hybrid rice producer Grand Agriseeds Technology to provide design services for the construction of a scheme that will include the company’s global headquarters, a research and development centre and the Shennong Valley Resort.
