UK-based architectural firm Broadway Malyan has won a brief from Chinese hybrid rice producer Grand Agriseeds Technology to provide design services for the construction of a scheme that will include the company’s global headquarters, a research and development centre and the Shennong Valley Resort.

Broadway will provide masterplanning, architectural and landscape design services for the project, from concept to detailed design and onsite delivery.

The project is intended to become a global hub for hybrid rice research, an international leisure destination and a showcase for sustainable development.

Shennong Valley Resort will be located on a 35-acre area in Baoting County, north of Sanya on Hainan Island in South China.

The resort will sit between the Qixianling Seven Angels mountain ridge and the valley’s terraced rice fields.

The leisure facilities in the scheme will include private villas, large club house villas and a resort hotel with conference and spa facilities designed to offer maximum views of the ridge and valleys bellow.

The scheme will also house a new museum of hybrid rice, showcasing new production technologies, solutions and the story of rice cultivation in Asia.

Broadway is currently developing the concept design; the detailed design work is scheduled to start in the early summer and construction is expected to begin in early 2013.
