UK-based architectural firm Broadway Malyan has won a brief to design a major new school campus for Dulwich College International in China.
Planned to be situated in Minhang, Shanghai, the new Dulwich College campus will be built on a 40,000m² site, with a floor area of 72,000m² to accomodate 1,500 students.
Plans for the Minhang campus include space for two schools within the first phase.
The first phase of the campus will be divided into four buildings; combined early years and juniors, a central facilities building featuring a 560-seat professional theatre, senior school and an indoor sports hall including a 50m swimming pool.
The sports hall will be located to the north of the junior school, while the proposed boarding house will be situated near the senior school.
Both the schools will feature a cloistered courtyard, providing a range of external teaching, learning and playground landscapes.
Broadway Malyan’s masterplan wraps accommodation around a quad featuring multi-use turf sports pitches and a cricket oval.
The architectural firm said Dulwich College International is still considering the nature of the second school to be built on the site.
The Minhang campus is the latest planned by Dulwich College International in China in addition to its other campuses in the country, which can be found in Shanghai’s Pudong district, Beijing and Suzhou.
Dulwich College also has campuses in Korea and Singapore, which are expected to open in August 2014.
Broadway Malyan’s international education project portfolio includes seven recent school openings for the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and completion of the £66m Bournville College campus in Birmingham, UK.
