Global contracting and development firm Brookfield Multiplex has won a A$425m ($314.1m) construction contract for developing the A$1bn ($739.1m) Al Maryah Central retail mall in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Gulf Related’s regional mall will be developed on the Al Maryah Island, covering an area of 2.3 million ft².
Expected to be completed in March 2018, it will feature departmental centres of Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s, along with more than 400 other retail shops, 145 restaurants and cafes, and a 20-screen cinema complex.
The development will house a medical center, crèche, health-club, public library, and a food market. It will also feature three rooftop parks for extra outdoor space.
in later development phases, the mall will add residential units and a hotel in two high-rise towers.
With excavation and foundation construction works for the mall already completed, Brookfield Multiplex will be responsible for the remaining activities. The firm is likely to start vertical construction of the mall this month.
