Brookfield Multiplex wins contract to develop Al Maryah Central mall in Abu Dhabi

Hilton Hotels Corporation is expected to announce two large development deals worth a combined US$1bn in the UK and Turkey this week. The company will open more than 30 budget Hampton Inn hotels in the UK and 25 new mid-market Hilton Garden Inns across Turkey, The Times reveals.

Global contracting and development firm Brookfield Multiplex has won a A$425m ($314.1m) construction contract for developing the A$1bn ($739.1m) Al Maryah Central retail mall in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

Gulf Related’s regional mall will be developed on the Al Maryah Island, covering an area of 2.3 million ft².

Expected to be completed in March 2018, it will feature departmental centres of Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s, along with more than 400 other retail shops, 145 restaurants and cafes, and a 20-screen cinema complex.

The development will house a medical center, crèche, health-club, public library, and a food market. It will also feature three rooftop parks for extra outdoor space.

in later development phases, the mall will add residential units and a hotel in two high-rise towers.

With excavation and foundation construction works for the mall already completed, Brookfield Multiplex will be responsible for the remaining activities. The firm is likely to start vertical construction of the mall this month.

Gulf Related of Real Estate Development managing director Kevin Ryan said: "Al Maryah Central is set to become the urban centre of Abu Dhabi providing an unrivalled retail, leisure and entertainment destination to serve the needs of Abu Dhabi’s fast growing community."

Brookfield Multiplex Middle East managing director Marcus Truscott said: "Al Maryah Central will transform the retail landscape in Abu Dhabi and positively shift people’s perceptions of urban life in the region."
