Australia-based Brookfield Multiplex has secured a contract to construct Bay Adelaide Centre East office building in Toronto, Canada.

Bay Adelaide Centre East tower will be constructed adjacent to Brookfield’s new 51-storey office development, Bay Adelaide West tower in Toronto.

The 44-storey, 980,000ft² office building will feature a four-storey podium, retail and parking at its base, as well as state-of-the-art operating and life safety systems.

Upon completion, the tower will be linked to Toronto’s PATH system with direct access to the 28km public walkway and retail network.

Construction of the tower is expected to be complete in 2015, when the building is anticipated to achieve LEED Platinum certification.

In June 2012, Deloitte signed an agreement to lease 420,000ft² or about 43% of Bay Adelaide Centre East office building as the anchor tenant of the new tower.

Bay Adelaide Centre East tower forms the second phase of Brookfield’s Bay Adelaide Centre project.

Brookfield completed the construction of Bay Adelaide Centre in June 2009 by incorporating the National Building facade at 347 Bay Street into a new design of a 51-storey office property.

Bay Adelaide Centre features a ground floor lobby three storeys in height with a light installation system on the south wall.

The centre features a 1.5 acre urban plaza and 1,100 stall parking garage with entrances on both Adelaide and Richmond streets.
