Chalegrove Properties has secured approval from Tower Hamlets Council in the UK to develop a 75-storey mixed-use tower on the site of the City Pride pub in the Docklands area of east London.

Designed by the UK-based architectural firm Squire and Partners, the 239m-high residential skyscraper will replace an earlier 63-storey proposal by Foster and Partners for the Westferry Road site.

The tower will feature around 822 residential units and 162 serviced apartments, and is expected to be the second tallest building in the UK.

The tower will also feature amenity floors, a roof terrace, basement car parking and cycle storage space.

After completion, the tower will be 4m taller than the Canary Wharf’s One Canada Square but 70m smaller than the £450m, 310m Shard in London.

Apart from the 75-storey tower, Chalegrove has also secured approval from the council to develop 173 residential units on 443-451 Westferry Road, opposite to the tower development site.

The company plans to build several smaller blocks ranging from three to five storeys with rooftop pavilions, underground parking, open space and associated community buildings.

UK-based GVA Grimley is acting as planning consultant on both schemes.

Chalegrove Properties was quoted by East London Advertiser as saying that "Chalegrove Properties Ltd are delighted to have the opportunity to regenerate these two strategically important sites and deliver much needed quality affordable family housing, as well as an exciting new iconic landmark for both London and the Isle of Dogs."
