Construction has started on the $17m Arcade Building in Little Rock’s River Market District in Arkansas, US.

The project is a joint venture between the Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) and Moses Tucker Real Estate (MTRE).

The three-storey, 60,000ft² building will feature retail space, a 325-seat theatre, a restaurant and office space.

CALS director Bobby Roberts said that the company has signed an agreement with the Little Rock Film Festival and its Institute to be the host facility for the nationally acclaimed Little Rock Film Festival.

"We will also make the theatre available for events including the Clinton School Speaker Series, CALS Literary Festival and other public functions," Roberts said.

The development will also feature a bar/restaurant to be known as Cache, owned and operated by RH Cuisine.

Cache, designed by Johnson Studio of Atlanta, will be situated on the edge of Clinton Avenue and River Market Avenue.

Meadors Adams & Lee will be the building’s largest office user, with plans to occupy more than 10,000ft² in the facility.

Apart from Meadors Adams & Lee, other new office tenants will include the building’s architect, AMR Architects, and the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service.

Clark Contractors and Central Construction will handle the construction of the building, which is due to be complete by November 2013.
