Nakheel has formally signed the AED1.2bn ($326m) contract with UAE-based United Engineering Construction (UEC) and Actco General Contracting for the construction of the Nakheel Mall on Palm Jumeirah in Dubai, UAE.
UEC and Actco were jointly awarded the contract in May to build a retail, dining and entertainment complex, the Nakheel Mall.
With a development area of 418,000m², the Nakheel Mall will be constructed across one million ft² at the centre of Palm Jumeirah.
The mall will have five retail levels with more than 100,000m² of shop space, 300 shops, two anchor department stores, a nine-screen cinema, a medical centre and a fitness complex.
Plans also include a roof plaza with restaurants and cafés and a food court.
The new facility will have three basement parking levels with 4,000 parking bays, a 1,000m² indoor garden and a 180m viewing deck.
Alongside Nakheel Mall, the 50-storey Palm Tower hotel will be constructed. It will offer 200 rooms, 200 apartments and a rooftop swimming pool with direct access to Nakheel Mall.
The Nakheel Mall will have its own Palm Jumeirah Monorail station and will be directly linked to the Palm's Marina Residences towers through underground walkways.
Construction work on the Nakheel Mall project is expected to be completed in 2016.
